PENDIMETHALIN

Category

Product Description:

Pendimethalin is a widely used selective, pre-emergence herbicide primarily designed to control annual grass weeds and certain broadleaf weeds in a variety of field crops, vegetables, and fruit orchards. It functions by inhibiting the cell division (mitosis) and elongation processes in the root and shoot meristems of germinating weeds.
Key Functions and Actions in Crops:
  • Pre-emergence Weed Control: Applied to the soil before weed seeds germinate, it creates a chemical barrier in the top few centimeters of soil that kills emerging seedlings.
  • Selective Protection: It is highly selective, meaning it controls weeds without harming the developing crop when used at recommended dosages.
  • Broad-Spectrum Activity: Effective against annual grasses (e.g., Crabgrass, Barnyardgrass, Foxtail) and many broadleaf weeds (e.g., Pigweed, Lambsquarters).
  • Early-Season Competitiveness: By eliminating early weed competition, it ensures that crops have optimal access to nutrients, water, and sunlight, leading to improved yields.
  • Long-Lasting Residual Effect: It provides extended, 30- to 60-day protection, preventing weed resurgence during the critical initial growth stages.
Commonly Supported Crops:
  • Row Crops: Cotton, Maize, Soybeans, Wheat, Sorghum, Sunflowers.
  • Vegetables: Potatoes, Onions, Garlic, Peas, Carrots, Cabbage.
  • Other: Rice (direct-seeded), Orchards, Vineyards, and Tobacco.
Application Methods:
  • Pre-plant Incorporated (PPI): Mechanically mixed into the top 5–7 cm of soil.
  • Pre-emergence: Sprayed on the soil surface after planting but before crop/weed emergence.
  • Post-transplanting: Applied within 1–2 days of transplanting for crops like rice or vegetables.
Important Considerations:
  • Moisture Requirement: Light rain or irrigation (10–15 mm) within 7 days of application is required to activate the herbicide in the weed germination zone.
  • Staining: It has a distinct yellow-orange color and may stain surfaces.
  • Avoid on Established Weeds: It does not control already emerged weeds.
